Kiya Piya Pe Kya Jaadoo

After a considerable long absence from my Blog, at last I have collected my wits to present one more rare song of real good taste to those very few members who used to open my Blog for a good rare song.
This today's rare song is from a film called 'Tikon Ka Chotha Kon', an unsuccessful film, which was released in 1986. It was produced written and directed by Madhusudan. The star cast consisted of Vijayendra, Priyadarshini, Swarup Sampat and others. Mahadevi Varma, Shahayar and Maya Govind were lyricist of the songs set by none other than my favorite MD Jaidevji. Playback artists were Bhupinder, Chhaya Ganguli, Penaz Masani and Shobha Joshi.
The innocence of the heroin, about her ignorance of what she did that has created magic on the lover is beautifully expressed in the lyrics of the song.  Poetess Maya Govindji, who generally declines giving permission to use her creations for films, gladly approved MD Jaidevji's request.  Chhaya Ganguli's rendering of the song in her classically trained voice touches the listener's heart to create the desired effect.  Jaidevji's unique style is beyond my description.

Lyrics:

Houle houle ras ghole bole mujhse jiya
Kiya piya pe kya jaadoo, par maine kya kiya
Itaraaye ithalaye puchhe mujhse jiya
Kiya piya pe kya jaadoo, par maine kya kiya

Soona soona tha yeh ghar, sooni sooni thi dagar
Soona soona tha yeh ghar, soone soone the sahar
unhe paa ke apanaake poora sapana kiya

bina jui huwa tan man huwa madhuban
Mohe mile hai sajan main to bani re dulhan
Huwa baadal mora aanchal darshan de diya

Main Roop-Rang-Ras-Gandh-Poorn Sakaar Kamal
Friday, 17th August, 2018
Dear Rare and Good taste Songs enjoying friends, here is one more GEM on My Blog 'Anmol Geet Bharati'.
This article was originally published on the ASAD blog on 14th August by me.

On 5th of this month, I was NOT on earth, for more than four hours . Now I know how joyful it will be in Heaven. I was a VIP guest at Jaidev's 100 year Birthday celebration organised by by Hariharan and Chhaya Ganguli. I had full one and a half hours on back stage with artists and even was given a centre first row seat.
During that heavenly program Jaidev's creations were presented by Hariharan, Penaaz Masani, Vibhavari Joshi,  Mahalakshmi Iyer and Suresh Wadkar.  Many luminaries like Shivkumar Sharma, Amol Palekar, Ashit Desai (who conducted the 20 piece orchestra for all the singers) etc talked about their association with Jaidev.
Penaaz Masani surprised everybody by singing a non-film, hardly heard composition written by the great poet Ramdhaari Singh Dinkar ji - a segment from his mahakavya 'Urvashi'.  She interjected every stanza with the translated English poetry written by Khushwant Singh.
It may not be popularly known that Jaidev - the underrated genius composer, probably the best of our times, has composed literary pieces from poets like Ghalib and Kabeer to Harivanshrai Bachchan, Mahadevi Varma, Jaishankar Prasad, Maithilisharan Gupt and Ramdhaari Singh 'Dinkar'.
I present today Jaidev ji composition of a renowned literary work - a lovely melody for Ramdhaari Singh Dinkar's legendary opus - 'Urvashi'. Unfortunately this partial composition, rendered by S. Janki remained unheard as the project got shelved and never completed. Jaidev truly was the Literary Composer.
In my khazaana I have a video of Jaidev ji in his own voice talking  about how he composed 'Urvashi' and the subsequent singing by S Janki - popularly and aptly called Lata from South India.
Enjoy this enchanting NFS, by listening to the song - you will want to listen to it repeatedly.
This part of note is provided by Sudhir Kapur, also published along with the original article, on ASAD.

'Urvashi' is a legendary lyrical drama, which is written by one of the greatest poets of modern India - Ramdhari Singh 'Dinkar' deals with the subject of beauty, love and passion, and that goes much beyond the superficial in exploring the depth of the quest for the truth behind the male-female union in this creation. The basis of this lyrical storytelling is the love saga of Urvashi and King Pururava.
Dinkar received the Sahitya Academy award for this creation in 1959, and the Jnaanpeeth Award in 1972.

Song: Main Roop-Rang-Ras-Gandh-Poorn Sakaar Kamal (S Janaki NFS) (1980)Singers: S Janki, Lyrics: Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Music: Jaidev

(Lyrics: in Hindi by Courtsey of my ASAD friend Shri Sudhir Kapur, wich was
also published along with the original article, on ASAD.)

 (In S Janki' s Voice)

I repeat that Songs that are SWEET will always remain SWEET.
Try and not only taste them, but eat and enjoy them please.

Like a Doctor I prescribe to all rare and good taste music lovers to hear it, (TDS). three times a day.!!!

Sanwariya Re Kaahe Maaro Najariya

posted 10th August, 2018

Dear Rare and Good taste enjoying friends, here is one more GEM on My Blog 'Anmol Geet Bharati'.

The song being presented today, is a traditional composition and the tune is set by our beloved Music Director Jaidev-ji.  From this 3rd August we are celebrating his birth centenary till the coming August 3, 2019.

Chhaya Ganguli told me about a month ago that she and Hariharan are planning to present a Master-Show at NCPA Theatre, in memory of Jaidev. I soon prepared Jaidev's entire collections from my Khajana and gave her a Pen-drive containing those gems. Within two-three days I received a call from Hariharan thanking me.

Chhayaji informed me that a spcial invitation will be waiting for me at the Tata Theater on 5th August and I shoud take a cab and reach there by 6 PM. (The fare was proptly reimbursed by the NCPA.) Equipped with my medical support belt and my seat-walking stick, I was there by 5:30 PM.  NCPA Director Dr. Suvarna Rao and her assistant Gargi received me with warmth at the entrance of the back-stage. Soon, for one and a half hours there, I was in seventh heaven in between so many Music Luminaries. The proof of Pooding is in these Photos.

When introduced to Hariharan, he RaolVinched me. (coined this new word today, meaning embraced me)

In my next instalment Hari Ichchha permitting, I will give some audios from that Jaidev night. It was a long program and I will talk about it in instalments.

I have no much details about today's song. It is from an un-finished and unpublished film of 1970s.   The name of the film Khunnas appears in the Filmography of Jaidev. (Even the song has Jaidev stamp). The so called duet is by Lata-ji (who else?) and her surilee sister Usha. I have not been able to separate their voices as it seems Usha has sung not separate lines but has accompanied Lataji in some lines.

Song: Saanwariya re kaahe maaro nazariya (Khunnas 1970s- Un-Released), Singers: Lata-Usha Mangeshkar, Lyrics: Traditional, Music: Jaidev.
